We are sentient beings. Our ability to strongly feel and perceive quite often makes us vulnerable. Certain episodes in our lives dispirit us, they leave us bitter. You tend to find yourself seeking answers and reassurances, making attempts to navigate through this chaos. The path is uncertain and uncertainty is certainly unsettling, subtly creeping into our lives and engulfing us. Flooded with this uncertainty, we might undertake a journey or retreat to a space where we can find solace.

Elemental is a search for that therapeutic place, that elusive comfort. It is a search for purity in an adulterated world.

This work was influenced by Joseph Campbell’s ‘The Hero with a Thousand Faces’. In the first stage of Campbell’s text titled Departure, the hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a place of supernatural wonder. This project is also an attempt to indirectly depict this stage of the hero’s journey, a possible hero in all of us, pausing to reflect.
